안녕하세요 동역자 여러분, 주 안에서 평안하신가요?
저는 성균관대학교 소프트웨어학과 25학번 류시원입니다!
저는 수원성교회에 다니며 대학에서는 CCC(한국대학생선교회)에서 순원으로서 또한 CCC 수원지구 찬양팀인 Pierce 에서 음향 엔지니어로 활동하고 있습니다.
이렇게 기도 편지를 드리게 된 이유는 이번 겨울, 수원지구 CCC에서 진행하는 일본 삿포로 단기선교를 준비하고 있기 때문입니다. 기도로 동역해 주시면 감사하겠습니다!
Hello, fellow coworkers in Christ. Are you well in the Lord?
I am Siwon Ryu, Class of ’25 in the Department of Software at Sungkyunkwan University!
I attend Suwon Sung Church, and on campus I am a small-group member in CCC (Korea Campus Crusade for Christ). I also serve as a sound engineer on Pierce, the worship team of CCC Suwon.
The reason I am sending this prayer letter is that this winter I am preparing for a short-term mission trip to Sapporo, Japan, organized by CCC Suwon. I would be very grateful if you would partner with me in prayer!

CCC (Campus Crusade for Christ) is an interdenominational evangelical missions organization that focuses on university campuses and is devoted to:
- Evangelism
- Discipleship
- Missions training
Through on-campus worship, Bible studies, evangelism and leadership training, and domestic and overseas short-term mission trips, CCC helps students grow as disciples of Christ.
In partnership with local churches, it is a ministry that raises up the next generation and diligently presses on toward the fulfillment of the Great Commission.
선교지 소개 Mission Field
일본은 종교의 자유가 헌법에 의해 명시적으로 보장되어 있지만, 전통적으로 신토(神道)와 불교가 문화·사회 구조의 중심을 이루고 있습니다. 일본인의 69%가 신토 의례에 참여하며, 인구 약 67%가 불교적 신념 혹은 관습을 유지하고 있는 것으로 조사됩니다. 반면, 기독교인은 전체 인구의 약 1-1.5%에 불과하며, 이 중 가톨릭 신자가 50만 명 이상, 개신교 신자가 약 55만 명으로 0.4% 수준에 머물고 있습니다.
일본 개신교의 저조한 성장 배경에는 신앙 전파 활동에 대한 일반적 무관심, 전통 신앙의 강한 영향력, 가족주의적 사회구조 등의 요인이 포함됩니다. 최근에는 개신교 교단 내에 고령 목회자 비율 증가(평균 연령 70세 이상)와 더불어, 목회자 부족으로 무목(無牧) 교회가 전체의 30~40%에 이르는 현실이 지속적으로 문제로 지적되고 있습니다.
또한 일본에서 새롭게 등록되는 개신교 교회 수는 매년 약 100곳 내외에 그치며, 최근 10년간 회중 수 역시 감소세를 보이고 있습니다. 주일 예배 정기 참석자 비율은 개신교회당 평균 30명 미만으로, 영세한 규모가 많습니다. 이러한 어려움에도 불구하고 JEMA(일본복음선교협회의 자료)에 따르면, 약 180개 국제 선교단체와 1200여 명 이상의 해외 파송 선교사가 다양한 전도 전략과 문화 교류 프로그램을 통해 현지 교회의 자립 및 성장, 차세대 복음 사역을 위해 지속적으로 노력하고 있습니다.
이처럼 일본은 아시아 내에서 기독교 복음화율이 가장 낮은 국가 중 하나로 평가받고 있으며, 종교적 소수로서의 개신교계는 고령화, 목회자 부족, 사회적 무관심 등 여러 구조적 과제를 동시에 안고 있습니다. 그럼에도 현지 교회와 선교 단체들은 다음 세대 사역, IT 기반 접근, 장르별 문화 사역 등 다양한 시도를 통해 교회 유지 및 복음 확산에 힘쓰고 있습니다.
Although freedom of religion is explicitly guaranteed by the Constitution in Japan, Shinto and Buddhism have traditionally formed the core of its cultural and social structure. It is reported that 69% of Japanese people participate in Shinto rituals, and about 67% of the population maintains Buddhist beliefs or practices. In contrast, Christians make up only about 1–1.5% of the total population, among whom there are over 500,000 Catholics and around 550,000 Protestants, remaining at roughly 0.4%.
The background to the slow growth of Protestantism in Japan includes such factors as general indifference toward evangelistic activity, the strong influence of traditional beliefs, and a family-centered social structure. In recent years, the proportion of elderly pastors within Protestant denominations (with an average age of over 70) has increased, and along with a shortage of pastors, it has been continually pointed out as a serious issue that 30–40% of churches are without a resident pastor.
Furthermore, the number of newly registered Protestant churches in Japan remains at around 100 per year, and over the past ten years the number of congregants has also been declining. The average number of regular Sunday worship attendees is fewer than 30 per Protestant church, and many churches are small in scale. In spite of these difficulties, according to data from JEMA (Japan Evangelical Missionary Association), around 180 international mission organizations and more than 1,200 overseas missionaries are continually working through various evangelistic strategies and cultural exchange programs to support the independence and growth of local churches and to carry out next-generation gospel ministry.
In this way, Japan is regarded as one of the countries in Asia with the lowest rate of Christian evangelization, and as a religious minority, the Protestant community bears multiple structural challenges such as aging, a shortage of pastors, and social indifference. Nevertheless, local churches and mission organizations are striving to maintain the church and spread the gospel through various efforts, including next-generation ministry, IT-based approaches, and culture-related ministries in different genres.
결단 계기 My Calling
저는 MK(선교사 자녀) 로 자라온 발자취를 따라 이제 직접 선교의 자리로 한 걸음을 내딛고자 합니다.
어렸을 때부터 네팔 선교지에서 여러 단기선교 팀과 선교사님들의 사역을 가까이에서 보며 자랐지만, 정작 제가 직접 선교에 참여해 본 적은 없었습니다.
그러다 올해 6월 졸업 후 선교사 자녀 캠프에 참석하면서, 하나님이 왜 저를 MK로, 또 네팔이라는 선교지로 보내셨는지 진지하게 묻게 되었습니다.
기도하는 가운데 하나님께서는 우리가 흔히 아는 지상명령, 마태복음 28장 16–20절 말씀으로 제게 응답해 주셨고,
이전에도 들어는 보았지만 깊이 묵상해 보지 못했던 이 말씀을 통해,
하나님께서 지상명령을 성취하기 위해 열심히 뛰고 계신 선교사님들을 돕는 선교사, 즉 보내는 선교사로써 저를 세우시기 위해 네팔이라는 환경 속에서 자라게 하셨음을 깨닫게 되었습니다.
하나님께서 주신 이 비전 성취를 위해 각 선교지의 더 깊은 이해와 섬김을 위해 여러 선교지를 직접 방문하고 현장의 어려움과 현실을 체험하고자 이번 선교에 지원하게 되었습니다.
I grew up as an MK (missionary kid), and now, following that path, I desire to take a step myself into the place of missions.
From a young age I lived on the mission field in Nepal, watching up close the ministries of many short-term mission teams and missionaries, but in reality I had never personally taken part in missions.
After graduating this June, I attended a missionary kids’ camp, and there I began to seriously ask why God had made me an MK and why He had sent me specifically to the mission field of Nepal.
As I was praying, God answered me through the passage we commonly know as the Great Commission, Matthew 28:16–20.
Through this word—which I had heard before but never truly meditated on deeply—I came to realize that God had allowed me to grow up in the environment of Nepal in order to raise me as a “sending missionary,” one who supports missionaries who are zealously running to fulfill the Great Commission.
In order to move toward the fulfillment of this vision God has given me, I applied for this mission trip so that I can visit different mission fields in person, understand and serve them more deeply, and experience firsthand the challenges and realities on the ground.
주요 사역 소개 Ministry Overview
저희의 사역은 다음과 같은 일정으로 진행됩니다.
일본 내 구체적인 일정은 아직 확정되지 않았지만, 현지에서 다양한 방법과 교수님이신 현지 선교사님의 도움으로 대학 강의에 참가하기, 코리안 나잇 등 여러 가지 이벤트를 활용하기 등을 통해 사람들과 관계를 맺으며 사역할 예정입니다. 많은 사람을 전도하는 것보다 한 사람 한 사람, 한 영혼이라도 살리고 제자화하는 데 집중하려고 합니다.
Our ministry will follow this schedule:
While the detailed schedule in Japan is still being finalized, we plan to build relationships through multiple avenues and with the help of a local missionary who also teaches at a university—joining university lectures, hosting a Korean Night, and running other events. Rather than focusing on reaching large numbers at once, we want to invest in each person, saving and discipling even a single soul.
